PROCESS

Concept #3: These walkthrough banners would line the posts near the library or downtown. They would include the name, the rating, and a short cliffhanger, to catch attention.

Perspective Shift #3: Analyzing outrageous economies of worth.

Concept #1: Cookie packet recommendations, with author and overall rating. Located inside a local coffee shop or the northside branch.

We moved on from our four concepts, with two conjectures which best fit how we wanted to design a book recommendation system.

Perspective Shift #1: Initial economies of worth analysis.

Landon and I chose the Northside Columbus Metropolitan Library branch in as our location for designing a new system for book recommendations.

Concept #2: The lending library is stocked by the Columbus Metropolitan Library, and lends books to the local businesses for their patrons.

Concept #4: A book delivery system which allows library patrons to order their books and recieve recommendations for new finds, before returning to recieve more at the end of the month.

Perspective Shift #4: Incorporating the small business lending library.

Perspective Shift #2: Potential economies of worth analysis.

  • Individuals order and select recommended or new reads through a paid subscription service.

  • “Words on Wheels” will then pack up selected orders into their van and hand-deliver each parcel to each patron.

  • At the end of the month, the van returns again to retrieve your order, and replace it with a new book.

  • “Words on Wheels” returns the book back to the library and allows for a new set of readers to enjoy recommended titles.

OUR FINAL DESIGN

REFLECTION

Landon and I had alot of fun working on this project, it was our first time working on a service design project. When starting our design we were tasked with creating a new system for recommending books to patrons of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. Landon and I decided that instead of creating a system inside the library, we would instead focus our efforts on designing a service which brought the library facilities and resources outside of its walls and instead focused on serving those who may be unable to use the library to its full capability.

Landon and I ideated many concepts many of which we found problems with deciding what decided a design as a service design in contrast to what we had already been working on creating. We wanted to insure that we were creating a service which followed the current mission of the Library system as well as providing a further reach in the area and still be feasible. We landed on a design which focused on providing a digital library system for patrons who were unable to make it to check out materials. We invision adding more space to accomodate a faster return rate for patrons orders, as well as a area for famous favorites and a recommended book system based on previous reads or new finds!
